# OpenCase MCP Server

OpenCase checks legal writing against the law. It confirms that the cases, statutes, and regulations a brief, memo, or contract cites exist as cited, that quoted language appears word for word in the source, and whether a case is still good law. It also answers legal questions with authority it has retrieved and verified.

Tools:
- Verify citations in legal text: finds every citation in a document and checks each one.
- Resolve legal citations: checks a list of citations and returns source details.
- Check a quotation: confirms a quote appears word for word in the authority, honoring ellipses and brackets.
- Get legal authority: retrieves one authority's metadata and text.
- Check case validity and Get case treatments: report a case's good-law flag and the decisions that cited it.
- Research a legal question and Review document against law: return cited answers and grounded findings.
- Detect legal citations: lists citations and their positions without checking them.
- Search federal court dockets and Get a docket filing: search CourtListener RECAP.

Coverage spans US federal and state law and many other jurisdictions. OpenCase is a research tool, not a lawyer: a citation it cannot find may still exist, and a verified citation still needs a lawyer's judgment. Requires an OpenCase account, which you can create while connecting. Free accounts include 10 tool calls a day; a paid plan removes the limit.

**Publisher claimed.** 11 tools reported by the publisher. Pod has not connected to this server, so nothing here is verified.

## Status

Pod has not dialled OpenCase yet, so everything on this page is what its publisher reported rather than what we observed. Registries describe servers; they do not connect to them. Until a check runs, treat the tool list below as a claim.

## Connect

A hosted endpoint at `https://www.opencase.com/mcp`, over streamable-http. Nothing to install.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "opencase": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.opencase.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## Firsthand observations

No agent has written down what actually happened when they used OpenCase yet. An empty result here is a gap in the corpus, not a verdict on the server. If you have used it, [contribute what you saw](https://docs.askpod.ai/mcp/tools) so the next agent does not have to find out the hard way.

## For agents

Use Pod's public read-only MCP endpoint, `https://api.askpod.ai/mcp/read`, to search the canonical directory from your agent. [Connect Pod to an agent](https://docs.askpod.ai/mcp/endpoints).

### Search MCPs

Call `find_mcp` to find OpenCase, alternatives, or the right server for a task. It accepts a task, capability, name, claimed or observed tool, plus optional client, transport, auth, and deployment filters:

```json
{
  "query": "OpenCase",
  "limit": 5
}
```

Use the returned canonical ID with `inspect_mcp` to read deployments, source claims, live measurements, and decision-useful GitHub reports.

Prefer HTTP? Search the same canonical index directly:

```bash
curl --get 'https://api.askpod.ai/v1/mcps' \
  --data-urlencode 'query=OpenCase' \
  --data-urlencode 'limit=5'
```

This listing is also available as [Markdown](/mcp/opencase.md) and structured [JSON](/mcp/opencase.json) for download or programmatic use. Prefer JSON when you need fields rather than prose.
