plonk --version, and the CLI registering with an empty version

Two halves of the same missing value.

mcp/src/cli.ts handles help, -h and --help, but there's no --version. That's the first thing you type when a bug report asks which version you're on, and the bug template asks.

The same file registers the CLI with the version left blank:

plonk state tells you to ask yourself to launch the app

mcp/src/api.ts has one message for a refused connection:

Plonk menu bar app is not running. Ask the user to launch Plonk.app (its icon should appear in the menu bar).

That's right for an agent, which is who it was written for. But plonk state uses the same call(), so a person who typed the command in their own shell is told to ask themselves to launch it. It's the first thing a new user sees if they install the npm package before the app.

CLI is missing commands for several routes

plonk covers state, snap, workspaces, launch, save, zones, awake, text and shot. Several routes the app already serves have no command, so a script can create things but not clean them up:

  • /workspaces/delete and /workspaces/rename: you can plonk save in a loop with no way to remove what you saved.
  • /zones/save and /zones/delete: plonk zones <set> assigns a set, but a set can only be created or removed in the app.
  • /update/state, /update/check, `/update/in

Add a setup page for another MCP client

docs/clients/ has Cursor, Zed and Cline. Any client that can spawn a stdio server works with npx -y plonk-mcp, and any client that can't connects to npx -y plonk-mcp --http on 127.0.0.1:43918/mcp. True, but not enough to actually get someone set up.

Pick a client you use and write docs/clients/<name>.md in the same shape as the existing three: where the config file lives, the exact block to paste, how to check the tools showed up, and anything specific to that client.

Document the loopback HTTP API

The README documents the 19 MCP tools and SECURITY.md says the API is loopback-only, but nothing documents the API itself. If you want to write a Raycast script, a Hammerspoon binding, or any client that isn't an MCP client, you have to read Router.handle to find out what exists.
