# Reported issues for sub-agents-mcp

Pod holds 6 of 6 problems reported by people outside the maintainer team. Issues filed by the project's own owners, members and collaborators are excluded entirely — a maintainer's release checklist is not a warning to a prospective user.

### Using Codex to call Codex sub-agents ends up in a recursive loop

Hi,

When Codex is configured to use sub-agents-mcp with `codex` agent type I noticed a recursive pattern where the `codex` process started by `sub-agents-mcp` node process starts another `sub-agents-mcp` node process, which starts codex all seeming to be processing the same task. The same happens with codex-cli and vscode wrapper. After a couple of seconds I noticed over 50 `codex` and `sub-agents-mcp` processes running wildly, and the original call to the sub-agent timeouts (at least when usin

### Can I use it from Windows Terminal using Cursor CLI in WSL?

I want to call the mcp server from my Cursor IDE in Windows. I install Cursor CLI in WSL and it's working. But, when the Cursor IDE calls the MCP server, I received the error "spawn cursor-agent ENOENT". They can't call cursor-agents inside WSL. I have tried to create a PowerShell function that allow me to call "cursor-agent ..." in ps and it call inside wsl directly, but the mcp server dosent use it. Here is the ps function to reference:

function cursor-agent {

### Optimization: Reuse Cursor Agent within Session

Currently, it takes about 5s for cursor-agent to boot up in my machine and start processing tokens. It is probably hard to keep the cursor-agent process open for a whole session, and still have a clear context in every call to the run_agent tool, but it might speed up considerably the execution of sub-agents. In my sessions, I run sub-agents from 5 to 10 times (I have commands with a large number of steps), and all the speed I gain wtih using the Composer model, I lose with the sub-agent calls.

### Sub-Agents Cannot Execute Commands Despite Permission Configuration

**Date:** 2025-01-27
**Component:** `sub-agents-mcp` MCP Server
**Severity:** Medium
**Status:** Unresolved

## Summary

Sub-agents created via `sub-agents-mcp` cannot execute terminal commands despite:
1. Configuring permissions in `cli-config.json`
2. Adding `ALLOWED_TOOLS` environment variable to `mcp.json`
3. Agents explicitly requesting command execution capabilities

Sub-agents consistently report "cannot execute commands directly" and fall back to providing instructions instead of e

### Sub-Agents MCP Error Analysis in Cursor

**Date:** 2025-01-27
**Issue:** MCP server outputting non-JSON-RPC formatted logs to stdout

## Summary

The `sub-agents-mcp` server is outputting structured log messages to stdout that are being interpreted as JSON-RPC messages by the MCP client. This violates the MCP protocol requirement that **only JSON-RPC 2.0 messages should be sent to stdout**.

## Error Categories

### 1. JSON-RPC Validation Errors (Most Common)

**Pattern:** The MCP client receives structured log objects that don't con

### Add an explanatory file or description

Hi there, I had opened this repo to review (probably from Reddit) because I must have found your plug interesting. But I've lost that context and now I'm wondering why I would want to use sub-agents via MCP versus inbuilt sub-agent functionality in Claude Code. Care to add some more information regarding your motivations and what problems this project helps solve either as a why/vision/motivations.md file or in the README?

Cheers!
