Setup: @verygoodplugins/mcp-evernote 1.2.3 installed globally from npm on macOS, EVERNOTE_ACCESS_TOKEN set in the MCP env (cookie auth), running as a Claude Desktop MCP server.

Every tool call fails at auth: Not connected: Failed to get noteStoreUrl from Evernote. Token may be invalid.

Underlying error from the server log: TypeError: userStore.getNoteStoreUrl is not a function at EvernoteOAuth.getAuthenticatedClient (dist/oauth.js:175)

feat: Extract and expose PDF attachment content via MCP

Problem

Currently, the Evernote MCP can detect that a note has PDF attachments but cannot read their contents. Claude reports it can only see that PDFs exist, not what's inside them.

Evernote itself supports full-text search inside PDFs and its native AI can read them — but this capability isn't surfaced through the MCP.

Docs: Add cookie-based auth bypass (no dev API key required)

Summary

A community member (@tdrayson) discovered that you can bypass the Evernote developer API key requirement entirely by using the clipper-sso cookie from the Evernote web client as the EVERNOTE_ACCESS_TOKEN.

Since Evernote has stopped issuing new developer API keys, this is currently the only viable path for new users.

Surface notebook list on connect + graceful fallback for missing notebooks

Problem

When writing to a notebook that doesn't exist, the MCP throws an error instead of handling it gracefully. The agent has no way of knowing valid notebook names before attempting a write.

Proposed Fix

1. Surface notebooks on connect Fetch and cache the notebook list on first connection and expose it — either as a resource, injected into the tool description, or returned as part of an init response. This lets the calling agent know what notebooks are valid before writing.
